About Jennifer
Hello and welcome! My name is Jennifer Petersen, and I am thrilled that you are interested in tutoring with me! I am a middle school science teacher and former math teacher with eight years of experience in the classroom. My favorite part of teaching is witnessing that "ah-ha!" moment when my students understand something new. I also love working to gradually instill those necessary self-regulation skills within my students, so that they can learn to love to set and achieve their goals.
Throughout my years of experience, I have worked with children from all walks of life. I believe that a teacher should strive to be culturally responsive, with a respect and understanding of the diverse needs of all learners. I aim to meet a student where they are at academically, and individualize instruction to fit their need so that we can gradually increase their depth of knowledge. I scaffold when appropriate, while also setting the bar high enough so that my students are challenged at their level.
I have my Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Grand Canyon University. My Bachelor's degree is in Elementary Education from Northern Arizona University.
