About Merilyn

Hello! I am a current high school senior! I have been tutoring since my freshman year of high school. I love working with young students to help them discover the love of learning the way that I did!

Tutoring Experience:

WellerTutoring (1 year)

I tutored ESL students and students that falling behind in school in English and Math.

Mandarin Language and Cultural Center (3 years)

I was a teacher's assistant and helped the teacher with class activities. I also helped students stay on task, relate to what they were learning, understand the material, and provided extra attention and assistance to them when needed. I also graded tests and homework. Throughout the three years, I have worked with students ranging from 1st to 6th grade.

Read Write Discover (2 years)

Over the course of two summers, I private tutored two elementary school students in reading, writing, and grammar. I curated custom lesson plans each week, tailored to their level and needs.

STEMgirls Elementrary Outreach Program (2 years)

I worked with students in 4th to 6th grade on different STEM experiments and projects to help them gain exposure to all parts of STEM as well as spark an interest in STEM. I created lesson plans to teach them things like parts of an atom, Scratch programming, basics of calculus, 3D printing, and building engineering.

Education:

Throughout high school, I have taken multiple Honors and AP classes such as Honors English, Honors Chemistry, AP Physics, AP Calculus AB and BC, AP Statistics, and AP Computer Science. I have also taken several community college courses through dual enrollment.

I like to get to know my students first. I want to know what their interests and hobbies are. I also want to know the level they are at so I may administer some form of an assessment to measure their level. Lastly, I want to know what their mindset for learning is.



I have worked with students in grades ranging from 1st grade to 6th grade. I have also worked with ESL students and students that were falling behind in school.
