About Matthew

I have previous experience tutoring young students and have the patience to teach all ages. I have taken AP courses in chemistry, physics, calculus, and other subjects. I received the Pioneer High School Math Department Award for my performance in calculus, and I was one of the top students in chemistry. I took the initiative to create and organize an online tutoring program for Pioneer High School in association with the administration when the in-person program was canceled due to COVID-19.

I enjoy watching others learn and discover. I have found that teaching others also helps me better understand by finding new ways to explain the same concept.

I have been helping other students learn all my life. My first official tutoring experience began in elementary school where I tutored those younger than me who struggled in school. I continued tutoring over time and I now know many techniques that help me teach others best.

I have copious experience in tutoring others. I have started my own tutoring program at my school when the old one was cut, and I have tutored many students in that program and others. Furthermore, I am a student myself and I know where students can easily make mistakes and how to best teach them.

About the lesson

When I first meet a new student I begin by asking what they have learned so far and understand. I proceed by asking what they need help with. After I know what they need and know, I go over examples with them. The first example I have them watch me do, the next I have us do together, and the next I have them do. If they are unable to do the problem I will continue to assist them until they understand the concept they are struggling with.

I have worked with all kinds of students. Students from elementary school level classes to college-level classes. I have worked with students who want to get ahead and students who have struggled. I have worked with students who have conditions, such as dyslexia, that introduce educational challenges.

Details

I generally charge about $20 for an hour session. I do not charge by the nearest hour though, I charge by the nearest quarter hour (fifteen minutes). So if a tutoring session is an hour and a half for example I will charge around $30 depending on the subject.
