About Esther

I am senior Civil Engineering student at Cal Poly Pomona and have always enjoyed teaching. My father, who is also a "teacher", has inspired me with that specific vocation. Growing up in one of the poorest countries in the world, I have witnessed several times how instruction and education can take people from abject poverty to a good living standard. At that age of 15, I had developed and implemented a training program for my church in Africa. The goal of the program was to teach youth to read music in order to be able to communicate with the rest of the world. The program was a success.

Since I came to the US, I have tutored students from different ages and backgrounds within my school and also privately. I have tutored through companies like Varsity Tutors and Wyzant Inc subjects as Calculus, AP Caluculus, Geometry, Algebra, Trigonometry and French for the past 5 years.

The reason I enjoy teaching so much is because I am conviced that having the opportunity to pass on knowledge to someone else is the one of the most honorable and precious things in life and no one should ever take it for granted. Indeed, teachers, mentors and coaches hold in their hands the power to influence, shape and train the elites and future of their societies. Because of that, I take very seriously every given opportunity to train people and I always make sure to be a positive influence. My teaching philosophy is finding the missing pieces to solve the puzzle in the head of the student. I speak and write both French and English fluently.

When I am not engineering buildings, I am engineering music. Indeed, composing music is my other passion.

I never encourage my students to memorize things. Instead I teach them ways of understanding them. Even where memorization is required, understanding makes it almost effortless. As my old English teacher used to say when you believe you have expalined something clearly in your paper, take one more line to explain it further. Never assume people should and will understand. Explain afetr you have explain. That is exactly how I proceed.
