About Jeff

I have a Master's Degree from the University of Chicago and have been tutoring independently for 20 years. I love working with students and helping them gain the confidence they need to excel in their school courses and standardized tests. I create a very positive and friendly environment where students feel comfortable learning and asking questions. Creating this encouraging environment is vital for allowing students to access their full creativity and learn new concepts.

After graduate school, I began my tutoring career as a Professional Writing Tutor in the Learning Assistance Center at my local community college. I soon struck out on my own, beginning to tutor the SAT, ACT, Math, and English. I've continued to tutor ever since then and have also worked for Private Home Tutoring, a local tutoring company in my area. I worked for them for several years, tutoring students one-one-one and teaching part of their SAT courses in two local school districts. I was very happy to see I always received very high marks from the students on the surveys after completion of the SAT courses.

I also co-founded a company where I helped dyslexic students develop their writing and critical reasoning skills. I created the curriculum and taught all our students. A local school district used my curriculum to teach their students.

I specialize in standardized test preparation. Having prepared students for the SAT and ACT for 17 years, I know the tests inside and out and have a proven lesson plan to help students gain the scores they want. I adapt the lesson plans based on the needs of each individual student. I also tutor all sections of both exams, providing complete preparation for the tests. I've had students who have achieved near-perfect scores on the SAT and ACT.

I've tutored high school Math for almost as long as the SAT and ACT. I specialize in Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry, and Pre-Calculus. I work hard to explain Math concepts in the simplest and most straightforward way. I always relate current Math topics to previous years' topics and show how they're similar to help students realize they can in fact succeed in their new Math course.

I'm well-rounded and also tutor English, Latin, and help students with their College-Application Essays. For college-students and grads applying to graduate school, I help prepare students for the GRE, GMAT, and LSAT.

Outside of tutoring, I make films and web series. I made a superhero series that's on Amazon and love all the superhero films and TV shows.

I am very easy to reach and will reply quickly. I'm flexible with my schedule and provide both in-person and online tutoring, so I'm certain we can find a time that works for both of us. I also always let my students know they can contact me via phone or Skype outside of our tutoring sessions if they come across that one tricky problem they really need help with the night before the test.

The most important thing for me is that my students succeed and gain confidence in their future studies. I look forward to working with you!

One of the best things about tutoring is the amazing bonds I've made with students and their parents. I've often tutored multiple siblings in one family over several years, and it sometimes feels like I've become part of the family. That's an incredible feeling and why I continue to tutor.
