About Katherine

I've tutor throughout highschool in both math and science as well mentoring younger color guard students. Now that I am back in college I plan to get back into tutoring. I have achieved atleast A's in basic math through college calculus 2 with specific experience in tutoring algebra. I am familar with the difficulties of having an ill equiped teacher, ADHD, or just a general disinterest in the subject can have on the classroom learning process allowing me to better connect and work with those I tutor to help them be able to excel in the classroom and out.

Teaching is a passion of mine because it allows me to share my knowledge with someone and turn a difficult task into something manageable. My goal is always to work with the person I am teaching to give them a true understanding of the material and it's usefulness not simple basic rote memorization. I prefer teaching on the individual level because I feel that is when the teaching process truly shines since I can understand exactly what the student is struggling with and help them grasp the concept in the time span they require.

About the lesson

First I begin by just getting to know the student, what are they struggling with specifically, how do they feel about the subject itself, is it a simple understanding issue or is there something specific in the classroom hindering learning, allowing me to understand where exactly the issue is. Then I would ask them to let me look through something like a textbook or syllabus they were given in order to understand what the overall expectations for the student is in the classroom. After that we would begin working through the specific areas the student is struggling with targeting both basic understanding difficulties and any potential mindset issues that may be harming the students learning.
