About Jessica
I'm Jessica, and I am passionate about learning. I believe that exposure to new subjects and challenges is what inspires an affinity for learning, and I want to share that with as many people as possible. I am a student at Yale University, but before that, I was a math instructor at my local tutoring center as well as a private math tutor. I hope to share my love for math and show my prospective students that all of their academic goals are within their reach.
I am currently working toward my bachelor's degree at Yale University. Before college, I worked at Mathnasium, the Math Learning Center, as a math instructor. Also, I was a private tutor for subjects such as algebra and Calculus I. Tutoring math is something I am very passionate about. I am a dedicated tutor who will work hard to ensure the success of my students.

When working with a new student, I first want to assess how the student feels about the subject matter at hand (whether it's frustrating, intimidating, confusing, etc). I want to validate the student's concerns about math but also encourage them to approach the subject with a positive outlook. Also, it often helps to break the topic down into smaller and more manageable components that are easier to understand. Once the student has a firmer grasp on the content, I like to create practice problems in order to strengthen the skill.
I have worked with many types of students, such as students of all ages K-12 and students with learning disabilities. I have also tutored in both one-on-one and large group settings. Many of my former students strongly disliked math and were struggling in school. For me, tutoring has been about more than just teaching concepts; it is also about encourage and inspiring students not to give up when the subject matter is difficult.
