About Emma
I have loved math since about eighth grade when I found a teacher who was more passionate about math than I had ever previously experienced. I believe the more passionate you are about what you teach, the better the outcome is for the student. I want to teach students to enjoy math rather than fear it through my love of math. I am currently a master's student in the Applied Math program at UMass Amherst. I received my undergraduate degree in math at Denison University where I was a Teaching Assistant both semester's my senior year (I lead my own aftetnoon help sessions for anyone who needed it). I also did research there in a field called Combinatorics, and this summer I am doing research in financial math.
I befriended a professor my junior year of college. She became my mentor throughout applying to master's programs and during the summer when I worked with her on summer research. So far, in my experience, she is the best professor I have ever come accross. She really helped me regain my love for math after a rough period in my undergraduate career. She pushed me to be her TA after we worked together, and I decided I really liked the feeling of helping others understand math. After that, I was asked by another professor to be a TA, and I happily accepted. I don't tutor or teach at UMass currently, but I would love to immerse myself in the opportunity again.
I was a teaching assistant at Denison University my whole senior year for Calculus I and Linear Algebra and Differential Equations.
