About Irene

I've been tutoring for the past five years since high school. I worked with K-12 with variety of subjects! I usually can tell how a teacher wants to show work or what he or she may put on the test, which I think is a forte for my students to improve their grades :)

I love working with kids and I also love teaching informations to other people! Tutoring makes me improve my communication skill and reinforces my work ethics!

I first started to tutor my friends who needed help in their classes that I already took. I started off with math because I was a year or two ahead than my friends so they would ask me to help. And I gradually started to tutor other people. Words spread and I naturally became a tutor in my area by end of freshman year of high school!

I have volunteered with mentally disabled people for 2-3 years to increase their concentration and communication skills. Also, with years of tutoring, it's easier to pick out a student's work ethic and his or her learning style.

About the lesson

Depending on a student's grade level, I usually give him or her a practice test to see what level he or she is on. And I ask him or her to explain a certain topic to me and see how well he or she understands it.

With no exaggeration, I probably have worked with k-12 last couple of years tutoring. I even worked with mentally disabled people before. I help with homework, with specific subjects, and even for particular tests. I help write essays, organize notes, improve on work ethics, and etc.

To be frank, it is really difficult to find that right tutor just by asking around. But one of the most important factor is experience as it takes practice to verbally explain and tutor to another person no matter how knowledgable you are in that subject.

Couple days ago, I was walking along beach and encountered one of the most beautiful sunsets! Perks of living in socal :)

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
1) What do I not understand?

This is the most critical one. Many students do not know what they do not know and tell the teacher "I just don't get it." If they are aware of what they do not know, then the process becomes a lot easier and shorter. That is why I ask "what do you not know?" if a student asks me this question. I make them question themselves what they do not know, which is a crucial step to critical thinking as this forces them to rethink the concept they do not know!
