Math isn't a set of formulas to memorize: it's a way of thinking about the world around you. As your tutor, I want to teach you to read between the lines of our lessons. I want to teach you to see how each lesson builds on the previous ones, and how the connections between seemingly different ideas create new understandings. I don't just want to teach you a collection of concepts, I want to empower you to develop your own processes for learning.
This approach is critical to becoming a good thinker and a skilled mathematician. As math classes get more advanced, your test questions will start making you analyze things you haven't seen before; you'll need to figure out how to apply what you do know to things you don't know. And this will prepare you for challenges in life as well! People won't always have the solution keys to problems they need you to solve. It'll be up to you to figure out what a solution to a problem looks like and how to get there. So really, my job isn't just teaching you math: it's helping you reach a place of confidence in your ability to problem solve.
