About Ken

I recently graduated from Brown University with a B.S. in Computer Science. I originally started college as a premed student, taking classes such as organic chemistry and microbiology and picking up many interdisciplinary skills along the way. I also served as a teaching assistant for three different computer science courses during my time at Brown and discovered my love for tutoring and helping others. I first started teaching in high school when I served as a teaching assistant for AP Chemistry and Physics C. I loved being able to help people and hold office hours to give student dedicated 1-on-1 help outside the classroom. I went on to tutor three computer science courses in college (Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning) because I enjoyed TA'ing so much!

I graduated from Brown University in 2020 with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science. I have taken college level math as well (multivariable calculus, linear algebra). I served as a teaching assistant for three separate computer science courses during the course of my undergraduate degree. I have completed four software engineering internships and am currently a software engineer at IMC Trading.

About the lesson

Usually students come to me with a few specific problems they are having trouble with. I typically try to diagnose the underlying cause of confusion rather than trying to solve the single specific problem directly in front of us. I will use readings from resources such as textbooks and walk through examples by hand until the student understands all the concepts that are at play. I typically leave it open to the student about what they want to cover in a lesson, as long as they can tell me 24 hours in advance so I can prep. If the student doesn't have a particular focus for a specific week, I will usually cover what they've gone over in class in the prior week to reinforce those topics.

I have primarily worked with high school and college students.

Make sure your teacher is a good fit for you! Although you won't be able to know this until one or more lessons in, the fit between a student and teacher will ultimately decide how much you get out of the lessons. Teachers vary by style and each student will absorb the material in a different way. Don't be afraid to speak up if you think the fit isn't right.
