About Erin
When I was younger, I really struggled with math. I didn't understand the way it was taught to me in school until I had a tutor who helped me to realize that not everyone learns in the same way and it's important to understand the way we learn.
This is what has made me believe that math does not have to be hard and it doesn't take genius to be a "math person".
It is okay to not understand and to have questions and it is okay to ask for help. It's the first step in unlocking your own brain's way of processing so that learning becomes progressively easier, and your hardest subjects become the most fun.

I like for the student to begin explaining to me the material they're struggling with, maybe even walk me through the way their teacher has taught them at school so that it's easier to see where the student is having trouble and getting snagged. Often times its easy to be so lost you're not even sure what questions to ask. By trying to explain the material to someone else, it becomes easier to to recognize where you're getting stuck and help you to understand yourself and your thinking process. Then the issues become easy to address and the process becomes easier to understand.
