About Phil
I think a lot of tutors teach a topic that they have naturally always found easy, this makes it tricky to explain a topic to those that do not have a natural inclination towards the subject.
I myself worked with several math tutors when I was younger, and generally, I found it quite hard. But over the years I've found ways to problems easier, tricks to make solutions intuitive, and this has helped me to be able to use math as a tool to work on really facinating subjects!
I'm excited to work with all kinds of students from all backgrounds!
I am a current student in my final year of Harvard college writing a thesis in computer science and neuroscience.
Along the way I have gained teaching experience as well. During the past year I have been working as a teaching assistant for a year-long highschool quantum computing course. I developed the course curriculum and wrote the weekly homework assignments in addition to teaching three weekly lab sections of around 200-500 students each.
Teaching this course was an especially useful learning experience as it forced me to find a way to explain traditionally complex topics in a simple and intuitive way that can be understood by younger students.

The first thing I would want to understand is the syllabus the student has been learning from. I would then want to check through each topic with the student and work out what areas they feel they know best and worst.
I would then want to look through some recent homeworks and have the student work through some problems with me. This helps illuminate any gaps in the students academic knowledge, and allows us to focus the tutorial sections on the areas that need help most.
