About Julian

I began tutoring in my sophomore year of high school when I helped found the Local Outreach Tutoring (LOT) program. The program prepares local Bronx middle schoolers for the Specialized High School Admissions Test. Over the past years my responsibilities in the program have included: drafting worksheets, coordinating lesson plans, and instructing a class of more than 20 students.

I was awarded the Biology Award and Physics Award while in high school, and, most recently, I was named Valedictorian for the Class of 2020.

The most enjoyable aspect of tutoring is having the opportunity to work with kids. In the Summer of 2019 I volunteered as a docent at the Liberty Science Center in Jersey City, NJ. A large part of my job there was to guide younger learners throughout the science center and aiding in their learning.

I first privately tutored middle schoolers in algebra I. Then, starting in my sophomore year of high school, I began in the Local Outreach Tutoring Program. Since then, I have privately tutored in various areas including physics.

Through my experience in the Local Outreach Tutoring program, I was trained in various pedagogical strategies to aid in my tutoring. Such strategies included skills in explaining material that may seem self-explanatory to the teacher. Furthermore, over time I have learned to teach through proofs and examples rather than relying on formulas.

About the lesson

I typically begin by asking a new student to complete a short diagnostic assessment in the particular subject. This allows me to then assess any particular strengths or weaknesses to help guide in later sessions.

At the Liberty Science Center I worked with children from all across the country who came to visit the center.

The Local Outreach Tutoring program was primarily directed towards lower income students in the Bronx.

I would recommend a student look through previous exams or homework to guage any particular areas that they may need to focus more on.
