About Isaiah

Hello! My name is Isaiah Hazzard, I am a recent graduate of New York University. I am a passionate educator that is committed to developing positive relationships, attention to detail, hard work, and bringing individuality to each learning environment.

I am most dedicated to clarifying students' individual goals, and working towards those in a way that engages the students' unique learning style, interests, and personality.

I am a professional drummer and producer by trade, as well as a math lover. I specialize in teaching Arithmetic, Algebra, Algebra 2, and Geometry. I enjoy making connections between music, rhythm, and math, and find that it is vital to make connections between subject matter and students' unique interests to create more depth and meaning in the student's academic journey.

My teaching experience includes work in various schools and organizations such as the East Village Community School, the 14th Street Y program (both in New York, NY), as well as 17000.solutions - a consulting company dedicated to education reform, community enrichment, and student empowerment.

I also have taught and and tutored privately for the last 4 years.

I enjoy being a facilitator and a mentor that helps students improve their skills, develop their passions, and do meaningful work.

About the lesson

First, I like to clarify what the exact goals, needs, and challenges the student is facing with their work.

Next, I work with the student to develop a 'plan of practice', that breaks down what work (or practice) we need to do together, and find out how to best approach this plan that makes the most sense for the student.

Along the way, I try to encourage and provide healthy communication, a lot of patience to create most a fun and vulnerable learning environment.
