About Luke
I am a young, educated, hard-working math teacher who truly enjoys helping students find understanding. I have taught in a variety of environments including middle schools, high schools, and a technical college. I have a Bachelor's degree in Secondary Math Education and am currently pursuing my Master's degree in Mathematics.
One of my true passions is working with young people and finding ways to make them successful and mathematically confident.
Some of my best academic accomplishments include being high school valedictorian, obtaining a composite score of 34 on the ACT (score of 36 on the math section), graduating college with a 3.84 GPA, and making it into graduate school.
What I enjoy most is seeing students' attitudes change as they become successful. Math has a longstanding reuputation of belittling people and making them feel inferior. I try to change that by instilling students with math confidence and getting them to feel how empowering mathematics can be.

After the traditional hello's and listening to how I can best help a new student, I typically like to assess a student's prior knowledge. If a new student already has a lot of background understanding, it can help prevent me from teaching to teach information that a student already understands. By immediately finding out where a new student is at academically, my tutoring sessions can have maximum effectiveness and less wasted time.
