About AMAURI

Looking for a tutor you can think of as a friend? I strive to make my tutor-student relationships mutually enjoyable and educational. Tutoring sessions should not be one-way streets in which only the student elevates their understanding. Tutors themselves should use these opportunites to reinvent the wheel and find alternate problem-solving methods, optimize explanations and engage in non-hostile social interactions.

How relaxing it can be, even when there is frustration because in my experience it is short-lived and easily overcome.

About the lesson

Going through several random problems to see the students approach and level of understanding of what questions are asking of them. Generally, I like to evaluate math skills and problem set-ups (especially in physics) to understand the persons way of thinking.

College level (Freshmen, Sophomore, Junior, Nursing students)

Look for someone who can break down a problem from multiple perspectives. If you are stuck and they can only explain it in one fashion, it's best to find someone else.

While I can't think of any particular event, seeing students show up to their tutor sessions after a week of hard work and overcoming the topics they struggled with brings me personal joy. There is something fulfilling in seeing people break their shells and being a sort of "key" for them.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Identify areas of struggle. This could range from study habits, language interpretation, math skills (most often). Also, be honest with yourself-- do you really need a tutor? Or have you just not been putting in the time. Many people think going to a tutor session is a one-time thing and they will magically KNOW everything right after. Work has to be done in/out of tutoring sessions.
