About Jacob

I'm Jacob! I graduated high school summa cum lade with a 5.25 GPA. Currently I am a junior at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and have a 4.0 GPA as a Civil Engineering student with a minor in mathematics. Growing up, school was always difficult for me due to my attention deficit disorder. The trouble arrived in the classroom where I was just a number. Learning for me occurred at home. Teachers and professors are taught to engage towards the entire classroom; however, some students are left out. I believe that by creating personal connections, I can ensure that everyone is obtaining the same education. Due to personal academic struggles as a child, I know what it feels to be left behind in the educational system. That's why I am willing to go the extra mile to establish a firm foundation for those who are seeking help and clarification. Over the years of tutoring, I have created lesson plans that are broken up into multiple sections with the questions already printed out for the students, saving precious learning time. I believe that tutors should have extremely organized and structured lesson plans to save time for the student, as well as instill organization. While this is the way I learn, this method can be adjusted to any subject and for the student's individual needs.

I have over four years of tutoring mathematics from algebra 1 all the way up to calculus 2. In high school, I worked directly with students who needed assistance through the counseling office. This was strictly a volunteering experience for over a year. While most of my tutoring sessions have been geared towards those struggling with calculus, I have been able to create extremely detailed lesson plans and outlines that cover these subjects at a high school and college level. Depending on the length and difficulty of the class, I am able to manipulate and focus this template towards certain aspects of the class and make sure it is learned and mastered within a determined time period.

My goal with becoming a tutor is to directly benefit those who are struggling with mathematics. I have completed about two years of tutoring for no cost and I wish I could continue that as my goal is not for monetary gain. That is why my rates are affordable. I want to make sure that students who need assistance are given the right help they need at a personal level. I believe that together, we can begin to make mathematics add up for everyone, no matter one's age, status or educational level.

My goal in becoming a tutor is to directly benefit those who are struggling with mathematics. The joy for me is seeing a student have the "AH HA" moment. While this may seem silly this moment is extremely important as this is where students begin to see the connection that was once not present. In addition, I love seeing students go from borderline passing grades, to becoming some of the top students in their courses. Seeing a student succeed is why I have a passion for tutoring and why I try to tutor for little monetary gain. I am here for the student and will do everything I can to make sure that math begins to add up for them.
