About Jacob
I have tutored high school and college students in the Long Beach / Los Alamitos area since 2005. I've taught high school math and have been in education since 2008.
I enjoy seeing students make connections and realize that mathematics is the sudy of patterns and is in itself a language that needs to be learned with practice.
I went to college to become a teacher, then became a student-teacher, substitute teacher, then full-time teacher.
I have a degree in mathematics education, as well as 14 years of experience in education (9 in the classroom as a high school math teacher).

Listening to students discuss what they find challenging about mathematics, specific issues, as well as goals for my service.
All types of students, dozens of students from grades 7-12+. I've worked with students who were very strong math students and needed some extra support to accelerate their skills, as well as students who struggled to grasp concepts due to lack of one-on-one support and transparent questioning.
Don't settle. If you don't feel supported and that you are getting the help you need, move on. There are plenty of tutors out there. The last thing you want to do is feel that you are wasting your time and money.
I bumped into a parent of one of the students I used to tutor, who was in 8th grade at the time. I learned that she went to college to study mathematics and was pursuing her passion to become a math teacher. Very cool news.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Really think through what your specific needs are, what you are needing support with. Ask questions that focus on the process of your learning, not just getting to the "right answers."
