About Jayne

I have 23 years of teaching experience. I have taught kindergarten, 1st, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th grades. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education and a Master's Degree in Elementary Guidance.

I love working with students and instilling confidence within their capabilities. One of the biggest barriers to learning is lack of confidence. By establishing skills necessary to gain success, the confidence levels are boosted. The overall happiness of a child is affected by this success.

I began teaching immediately out of college in 1993. I am from a long line of teachers within my family. My parents were teachers. My sister is a teacher and I have 32 aunts, uncles and cousins who are either teachers, principals or superintendents.

I have 23 years of teaching experience in Kentucky. I have taught K, 1st, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th grades. I have a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and a Master's Degree in Elementary Guidance from Western Kentucky University.

About the lesson

I like to get to know the student by learning about students' interests and discovering their learning styles. Are they a visual learner, hands on learner, auditory learner? It is also important to learn what motivators work (both intrinsic and extrinsic) in order to ensure success. I then like to perform an assessment in order to identify weaknesses so that I will know which areas of study are in need of the most focus.

I have worked with virtually every type of student from age 5 up to age 12. This includes special needs students, ESL students, gifted students and students from various socio-economic backgrounds.

Look for someone who you enjoy being around. Learning should be a good feeling and it should make you feel good about yourself.

My husband took a wonderful job in the Kansas City area and I forewent my teaching career as we moved from Kentucky to Kansas City, MO. I found myself yearning to teach again but did not quite want to go back into the regular classroom. I was fortunate in that I found a wonder family who wished for their child to be homeschooled this past year. She was very much behind for her grade level. I homeschooled her for her entire 4th grade year and she excelled! She jumped two grade levels in the year we were together. :)

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Many students feel so lost they cannot pinpoint exactly what it is in which they need assistance. It is important to express to teachers their feelings of being lost and to never pretend one understands a concept when they do not. It is crucial to be honest about one's needs in order get the help needed.
