About Patrick

I studied math and science for years as an engineering student, and later I saw first-hand the value of all that hard work and knowledge as I applied it toward fascinating projects.

Tough subjects require motivated, curious students. By reframing problems, explaining concepts in familiar terms, and providing real-world examples, I show my students why they should care and what's in it for them. From there, their natural curiosity does the rest of the heavy lifting and I simply gudie the way.

Skills in math and science are critical to success in school, work, and life. I believe that an analytical approach can be used to inform any situation, or guide any decision, and often times it should!

I specialize in working with gifted students. From personal experience, I know that it can be hard to care about a new concept or algebraic technique when you don't see how it could impact your life. As a tutor I invite my students to explore and apply the concepts we study in real-time, creating an open and engaging atmosphere conducive to learning.

I enjoy giving young people analytical tools and learning techniques they can use forever, to improve their own life as well as the lives of those around them.

When I hear my student's voice change to reflect curiosity, interest, or confidence, I know that I'm heading in the right direction. What I love most about my work is the satisfaction felt by my students after fully understanding a new concept, acing a big test, or solving a tough problem. (It's sometimes accompanied by "Ohhh!")

About the lesson

Mathematics lessons offered by Patrick are tailored to each student's needs and level. Lessons can also be held online. Lessons are also available in Lake Forest. The first lesson is free to define learning goals and methodology.

Perfect! I really found working with Patrick was helpful and an overall great experience. Unlike other tutors I've had, Patrick actually takes the time to work through the problem and have you explain your steps instead of simply saying whether you're correct. He truly makes you think. He's also great at working through multiple methods to get to a solution and making sure you find one that you're comfortable with. Patrick makes sure you truly understand what and why you're doing each step, and solving a problem becomes something more than simply going through the motions of a concept. He's always completely open to questions or even you posing new theories/methods as well as he himself trying said methods. All in all, Patrick is a great tutor and it's evident how invested he is.

I taught Patrick and two of his six siblings as a first grade teacher at Our Saviour Grade School. They were some of the smartest children I have ever taught, even today. I am still friends with his mother and father. I watched Patrick grow from a precocious boy to a responsible young man as he is a friend of my daughter as well. When he was in town for a while after graduating from Notre Dame, I was tutoring and one of my students needed help in an advanced math class. I didn’t feel I able to provide the guidance that he needed so I asked Pat. He gladly met my student and me and with ease, and an innate ability quickly explained what I could not! I have no doubt that he has the skills and abilities to guide your daughter to a better understanding of trigonometry.
