About Michele

I have been told many times that I missed my calling and should have been a teacher. I am very good at breaking down mathematical concepts to a level that is easier to understand and remember. Math was always my favorite subject, it has always come very easy to me. I am able to meet the student where they are in understanding and patiently bring them along. I am a firm believer in learning and understanding the fundamentals. When you understand the fundamentals you can solve the problem no matter how it is presented.

I love working with youth. I especially love helping them to understand and become fluent in concepts that they once found difficult. I love mathematics and it is so satisfying to help young people overcome their fear and struggles with the subject.

I got started tutoring after hearing a friend of mine being concerned with his daughter struggling with math. I offered to help by tutoring her. It felt very rewarding to be able to help and I realized I was good at it.

I am not a professional teacher, but I have taken many years of advanced mathematics. I have a chemical engineering degree from Georgia Tech and currently work in the technology industry. I don't tutor because of the money. I tutor because I truly enjoy it and am very good at it.

About the lesson

I like to spend the first few minutes of first session getting to know the student. I will ask them what do they like and dislike about the subject. I want to understand from their perspective what they believe their strengths and weaknesses are pertaining to math. I ask that they bring recent classwork and tests, so I can review. And also give them an opportunity to ask me questions so they feel comfortable with me. We will begin with the chapter or topic they are currently working on in school. As I identify a lack in understanding I will go to the fundamentals. Then it's practice, practice, practice.

I have 3 sons of my own, so I have worked with all ages. But most of the students that I have tutored have been high schoolers.

I have a flat rate of $25/hr, if you are able to come to me and $30/hr, if I come to you (within 15 miles).
