About Stephany

- I have been tutoring since I was a sophmore in highschool! I used to volunteer at the Big Brother, Big Sister program at the elementary school near my highschool working with students grades K-8 and have even tutored high school students.

- I currently attend University of California, Irvine. I am graduating this year with a Bachelors Degree in Business Economics and a Minor in Electronic Art + Design.

- I have experience nannying and tutoring kids of all ages!

- I have flexible hours and can work via Zoom and even do House appointments [Depending on COVID-19 restrictions]

- I am also 100% fluent in Spanish (read, speak, and write) as I used to attend school in Bogota, Colombia.

- Love helping students by giving them the confidence they need to succeed, while helping them get on the right track to pursue a higher education!

- My mom always told me, "The only thing nobody can take away from you, is your education" and I stand by that. Education provides opportunities for the rest of your life and it all starts with a strong foundation.

Fun fact: You can predict how well a student will do, academically, by the 3rd grade!

About the lesson

When helping a new student, I like looking through their homework or assignment to get an idea of what kind of problems we will be working on. I like to ask them what parts of their homework they DO understand to give them a little confidence boost and ask them to explain those topics/problems to me (for a little confidence boost). Then I move onto what they need help with. First, I start off by typically asking the student to do a problem related to/ or on their homework just to see their thought process. I want to see what steps they take and how they got to their answer. Once I access what they need help with, I work through problems with them and have them explain each step to me. Helps them remember the process while learning the "why" or reason behind solving the problem.

I tend to charge per hour or session. I want to make sure we are using the entire session to work so I ask to be sent the assignment or lesson plan beforehand.
