About Denis

I am Denis and I graduated with a bachelor's degree in Mathematics (and Computer Science) with honors. I also hold a Master's degree in Applied Mathematics (with a STEM endorsement). I have taught Mathematics for 12 years now, 4 of those years out of the USA and 8 in the USA. I taught Math for 4 years in South Carolina, and tutored for two of those years. I am on my 4th year of teaching Math in the High School here in Houston, and I have been tutoring for all 4 years. Through my years of teaching, I have noticed that most students don't care how much a teacher knows, until they know how much the teacher cares. So I have learned to care about my students, know their peculiarities, and understand their different learning styles. In this way, when helping them learn a concept, I leverage their unique learning styles and optimize their outputs. This enables most of my students to take ownership of their learning and celebrate their achievements. I mostly begin instructions by modeling, then practicing with my students, and finally getting them to build confidence and succeed. I come in thereafter when they have difficulties in comprehension or solving.

I enjoy tutoring students because I am good at deciphering students' strengths and weaknesses in Math as soon as I begin working with them. Knowing that all students can learn and excel in what ever they commit themselves to, I try to break down the concepts to bits and pieces that are very easy to understand. I also encourage my students to persevere and build confidence as they solve problems. In this way, they end up solving most problems and being overall successful.

I like being a motivation to the students I teach and I am always ready to learn from them as well. Feel free to contact me at anytime, if need be. My pleasure is seeing the students I tutor succeed in Math and life.

I have a bachelor's degree in Mathematics education, certified, and presently teaching Math at the High School in Houston. I have been teaching Math for 12 years now both at the Middle and High School levels.

About the lesson

I introduce myself, get to know my prospective student, their level of comfort or difficulty in Math, and seek to know how best they think I can be of help to them (for example, help them with Homework or classwork).
