About Emily
I have been tutoring children and peers for quite a few years now, and I am just about to graduate with my Bachelor's degree in Physics with a plan to return for graduate school in Integrated Science and Technology focusing in Physics. I can tutor a wide variety of subjects, but primarily excel in math, physics, and english.
I feel my services stand out because of my approach and compassionate style of working with students. I was a first generation college student, and I understood the struggle of getting through tough classes on your own. I tutor because I want to help others push through not only to make good grades, but to also help build life and study skills that will stick with the student beyond the time I spend with them. I am dedicated to this cause and will work with the student as long as they need to solidify their understanding.
I thoroughly enjoy helping others get motivated to learn. Seeing the lightbulb go off when someone finally understands a concept or correctly works a problem is so pure and rewarding. It means a lot to me to be able to assist in getting through tough times. My goal is to help alleviate some of the stress of academia by assisting others in grasping concepts.
I got started tutoring when things finally clicked for me. When I was in school, I struggled for quite a long time. Eventually, things just started making sense, and I was the one to whom people came for questions. The feeling of helping others is so blissful, and I want to share the power of understanding with those who struggle like I did.
I am graduating in December 2019 with a bachelor's degree in Physics. I have been tutoring on and off for about 6 years now, ranging in ages from middle school to undergraduate level.

When working with a new student, I believe it is incredibly important to discuss what they want to get out of tutoring and gather information about how they learn. I want this to be a comfortable process, not a stressful one, so I utilize a compassionate and patient method of tutoring in order to optimize the learning environment. I care about each and every new student, so I will do whatever it takes to help them succeed.
I have worked with students of various demographics ranging from middle school to undergraduate with a wide range of academic ability.
If you are looking to hire a tutor, I recommend getting to know them and their work style before committing. Everybody works differently, and it is best to make sure you have the same goals and ideals when getting started with a tutor. There is no shame in looking for help, so do not be afraid to ask questions or request clarification on subject matters you are unsure of. This is part of the learning process! Be true to yourself, challenge yourself, and work with someone who motivates you to be the best you you can be.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Students should have an open communication with teachers about their needs, and they should talk about it whenever they feel is necessary. Should a teacher respond negatively to this approach, don't take it as a defeat but rather as an opportunity to expand your horizons and work with someone who will help you where you need help. It is important to ask your teacher or appropriate authority what your options are for getting help.

Perfect! She helped my son so much. He said she was very knowledgeable in the area he needed help and took her time with him. Just the support and help he needed to get through this hard class.
