About Ethan

Teaching is about taking the time and effort to understand how a student learns and how to effectively communicate with them. I offer the patience and diligence required to help my students understand math and pass tests.

My students, friends, and colleagues say I have a natural talent for explaining complicated topics. I use this skill to help my students catch up on topics they have trouble with as well as prepare for future exams.

I've heard many teachers say that there is nothing better than watching a student's face light up when they finally understand something they've struggled with, and I wholeheartedly agree. I enjoy watching students gain confidence in their own ablities as they learn.

I also enjoy seeing my students succeed on difficult tests, such as the AP Exams, after putting in so much hard work.

I have a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics from Elizabethtown College. While there I helped and tutored many students in undergraduate level math and computer science.

I have three years experience working as a corporate actuary. While there I helped train new employees and wrote procedure manuels for new employees to follow.

About the lesson

First, it's important to talk with the student about their goals, both in the short-term and for the semester or year.

Then we can discuss what the student believes their strengths and weakness are and what topic they need the most help with.

From there we can put together an action plan to most effectivly meet those goals and bolster their weaknesses.

I have worked with high school and college students at varying levels of mathematics, from Algebra to AP Calculus to undergraduate math courses.

Teaching math is about communicating complicated topics in an easy to understand way, so finding a teacher or tutor you feel comfortable communicating with can make all the difference. I would encourage the student not to feel put down if they struggle with understanding math, as they may just need topics explained differently.
