I would talk over what aspects they are confused about and work through some problems together step by step. If they have an old test they did not do well on, I'd ask them to bring it so we can work through the wrong problems and fix them.
Mainly middle school and elemtarg students. However I am able to teach Algebra 1 freshman students as well.
Pick someone you are comfortable with receiving constructive criticism from. Typically when a student struggles on a certain subject, they either have the wrong approach or understanding or simply don't know where to start. That's where I come in to help! Also simply be comfortable because then there's better communication and it's easier to ask questions when needed.
Recently I went a hiking trip. It was only a half a mile hike up the mountain but, once I got there I saw a beautiful waterfall with many levels of pools underneath it. I got to swim in it with my friends and it was such a nice and relaxing summer day.

If they can, they should let me know the specific area where they are struggling. If not that's completely ok as well and we will find out together what the student struggles with.
