About Sam
I have been tutoring mathematics at all levels for over 6 years. I spent 5 of those years working as an instructor for Mathnasium, and so I have experience with every age group and all levels of mathematics from basic arithmetic to AP Calculus and SAT prep. I have a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from Ramapo College of New Jersey, and I graduated magna cum laude (3.725 GPA). I have many satisfied parents and successful students who can speak to how I've helped them through their mathematics journey over the years. Let me help you get better at this wonderful subject!
I love nothing more than to spread the joy of learning to my students--especially with the subject that I love most of all, mathematics! So often, math is presented as rote, uninteresting, and unapplicable. I seek to change that entirely by making my lessons engaging and fun, and providing students the context to understand why it is that they're learning all this math in the first place.

I always start off by assessing a few key aspects of my student's current situation:
What lessons have already been covered?
What lesson is the student working on currently?
What particular problems are they struggling with?
By answering those three simple questions, a remarkable amount of information can be gleaned. Most importantly, I can determine which foundational or requisite knowledge the student is missing from their repetoire, and how best to approach filling in those knowledge gaps. Patching up missing information is by far the most relevant piece of the math tutoring process, as mathematics is inherently cummulative.

When Sam taught me as a student, he always made sure to explain the general process of the problem and why certain steps had to be taken. For me, this was really helpful as I wasn’t just memorizing a formula but rather learning how the formula was derived and why it worked. Especially with concepts I greatly struggled in such as geometric proofs and trigonometry, he was a big help in allowing me to see how the unit circle worked the way it did and how proofs always have a certain way to approach them. His way of teaching helped me grow my problem solving skills as a math student and to this day, have helped me excel in concepts I find difficult at first
I used to be tutored math by Sam for about 3 years. He was probably one of the best tutors i’ve had since he always pushed me to trying to learn on my own while also helping me understand. He didn’t “hold my hand” through all of the process but instead taught me in a way that allowed me to understand concepts and then continue working harder on my own as well. In this way, I was able to succeed in much harder courses such as AP Calc on my own using skills he taught me. I genuinely believe he is one of the best tutors i’ve had and can attribute my grades and strong understanding of math to him.
Sam has been my tutor for many years and his methods of explanation are very easy to understand. He definitely helped me increase my grades in school and helped me better understand the material.
Helped my daughter when she needed the most. Great experience overall
Very knowledgeable on several topics and has helped throughout some of the hardest classes in high school. He explains each topic very well and with great detail to solidify the concept.
