About Irene

My goal is to help students develop a clear understanding of the subjects taught in school. Never be embarrassed about not understanding something and always ask questions. I interned at an elementary school in 2014 to 2015 and tutored students in math and english since then. I graduated from University of Maryland with a degree in Civil Engineering and currently work as a structural engineer at an engineering firm.

I interned at an elementary school in hopes of becoming a teacher one day, but decided to become an engineer. However, my love for teaching carried on throughout my career, so I started tutoring.

I have a degree in civil engineering and I currently work as a structural engineer for an engineering firm.

About the lesson

My first day is a meet and greet to understand what the student needs help on. I will also ask to receive their curriculum to keep track of the subjects that the student learns and adjust the sessions based on the subject. Most session will be used to work on practice problems, normally using the homework and practice problems that the students receive from school.

Mainly elementary and middle school students.

Ask yourself what you are looking for in a teacher. Everyone has a different learning style, find a teacher that you think will help you excel.

I was able to travel to Upstate New York for the first time to inspect some structures along the Erie Canal! It was my first time being in Upstate New York and seeing the Erie Canal.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Think about why you do not understand something, not just what you do not understand. Is it because you zoned out when the teacher explained the concept, so everything else that came along with it became hard? Or is there a specific step in a math problem that you cannot seem to wrap your head around? Either way, it happens. The best way to get over a problem is to approach it head on!
