About Graham

I am extremely passionate about teaching, especially in high school, where every grade can tip the scales of success or failure with regards to college acceptance. My emphasis in teaching is on engaging the student in the material. It is my philosophy that if a student is not interested in the work, they won't learn it, no matter how hard they try.

I love most just seeing the spark of new passion for learning. It is the most fulfilling part of teaching, and that's what I hope to see by tutoring students online.

In my senior year of high school I volunteered to Geomtry to struggling students for two semesters. The first semester I worked with a varied group of students, and the second semester I worked one on one with a student who needed extra assistance.

I graduated high school in June of 2020 with a GPA of 4.147 out of 4.33. I have taken Geometry, Algebra II, Precalculus, and AP Calculus, along with my year long Math Mentoring engagement in my senior year. I got a 1430 on the SAT, with a 720 in Reading and Writing and a 710 in Math.

About the lesson

I like to engage with the student on a personal level first, because I find that it's incredibly important how much a student likes who is teaching them. I then give a basic overview of the content, often reviewing what we may have done in the last session. My teaching of the content has a big emphasis on pneumonics and analogies to assist with understanding and memory. Before moving on from a subject, I make absolutely sure that the student understands the material and has had ample time to ask questions. More often than not, I've found, you teach them more by questions and answers than by lecturing them.

I worked with students who were struggling with Geometry class in their freshman or sophomore year.

I would say that it's imperative to find someone who is interesting. Math can very easily be a chore if no effort is made to make it engaging or fun.

I have no standard pricing system, I would like to earn between 15 and 20 dollars an hour but I would accept les or more depending on my clients' judments on my performance.
