About Derek
I think my abilities stand out, because of the fresh and new ideas that I can provide during a lesson. I'm tech savvy - meaning that I incorporate technology into the teaching of students. I enjoy hands-on learning and applying the materials to real life situation. I believe that in order to teach students, you must connect with them on a personal level.
I enjoy the ability to work with people and give them the attention they need to learn new information. I love doing math and it's exciting whenever a person who "hates" math ends up liking it, because of the teacher's ability to teach. I'm happy to be majoring in education, because of the impact I hope to have on my future students; regardless of age.
I am not a teacher yet, but I am currently enrolled in a college to become one. I've exceeded all previous and present credentials for the education program at Culver. I have observed the classroom and even created many lesson plans. I've had advanced math courses making me a reliable source for math tutoring/advice.
One important factor that reflects my ability to teach was my senior year in High School. I had the ability to help tutor a class of Kindergartners. I worked with each one in one-on-one sessions; allowing me to give them the direct attention needed to learn effectively.
I'm currently an Education major in both Elementary and Middle School settings. I specialize in Mathematics, but have a basic knowledge in most subjects. I've experienced different method classes that have given me the ability to teach a subject in many ways that may help a student.

Connecting with them first and making it more than just a student-teacher "boring" relationship. My goal is to detect how they learn best and apply that to the lesson. Provide a variety of ways to make sure they're in the best environment to learn.
Be open-minded. I am not a professional teacher nor do I have direct experience with teaching a class full of students. I know the information and material to do so, but have not completed the program and graduated to start teaching yet. Allow future teachers a chance to tutor, because sometimes they can bring in new ideas and methods that will be beneficial to learning.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Ask questions that are related to a tutor's expertise, because no one knows everything. Also, be patient with tutors whenever you need help with a complex problem; because they need time to approach it and then teach it.

No, I believe the payment should depend on how well the student learned and how well I was able to help them. I don't want people to pay a high price if they leave the lesson feeling the same before they got help.
