About Carter

I work hard to make my lessons engaging and impactful for students. I've received tutoring myself in the past, so I have a better understanding of what makes a lesson successful.

I make sure to be patient above all, since learning new concepts can be really difficult and students can't truly succeed by being rushed through. As a tutor, my job is to make learning fun!

I enjoy a lot of things about tutoring; seeing a student's face light up when a tough concept finally makes sense, hearing about how well a student did on the exam they were worried about, or noticing that a student is having fun during our lessons.

I still remember the first student I ever had. Her name was Esme, and she was a 3rd grader at the school where I volunteered. She would smile so widely when she got a question right, and she is no doubt the reason why I wanted to keep tutoring.

My first tutoring experience was through volunteering. I worked with kids in grades K-6 on math and reading skills, which is how I learned that tutoring is really rewarding for both the student and the teacher.

In the past, I've tutored students online on subjects like Algebra II and Precalculus with very noticeable improvements in their grades.

Currently, I study Finance and Marketing at Boston University and work as a Finance Teaching Assistant there as well, so I have experience working with students of all ages, even at the college level.

My high school GPA was a 3.75, and all of my math grades were A's and either honors or AP level. For the SAT, I scored a 1570 with a perfect 800 math score and a 770 reading/writing score.

About the lesson

I always start by getting to know their learning styles and goals. Every student is different, so adapting my lessons to the way they learn is the most important way to improve their learning experience.

I've worked with many different students; some are quiet and prefer for me to bring practice problems and lead the lesson, and other students bring their own classwork to review.

Some students have trouble with very particular concepts while others need to refresh their understanding of the basics to be able to tackle the more difficult ideas.

With the right teacher, though, any student can make great progress!

Some teachers will work great for you, and others won't. I know from my own experience throughout school that I've had math teachers that made the course engaging and easy-to-learn, while other teachers would try explaining a concept and leave me even more confused than before.

If a tutor doesn't feel right for you, don't hesitate to either let them know that something is wrong or move to a different tutor. As a student, your learning needs come first.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Think about what kind of lesson you want: do you want help with specific concepts or a general review of the course? Are you getting tutoring for a class you're taking in the future or taking right now? Even just answering these two questions gives me a good idea of where to start when beginning our lessons!
