I enjoy teaching people and seeing the joy on their face when they understand a subject that has been troubling them or they find joy in a new hobby that they are building skill for.

I started teaching when I worked in my aunt's daycare for the summer, I was 11 at the time. We had a child at the daycare who had some behavioral issues that required him to go to summer school. One day, he was very sad because he couldn't read as well as the other kids of his age in the daycare. That night, I bought him a few English workbooks and we began to work on them every day when the other children were having quiet time. Seeing his face light up every time he understood something that had been troubling him before was beautiful. I also found the whole process fun in general.

I have not yet graduated high school so I have not yet gotten the chance to receive any degrees. However, I have been working in childcare since I was eight at my aunt's daycare. I have been teaching at a Sunday School for almost three years and I have been tutoring locally for one year. Though I am young, I have a lot of experience in teaching and tutoring, and love the work I do!

About the lesson

When I begin working with a new student I always like to have a conversation with their parent or guardian first (if they are a minor). I like to get a feel of the student's struggles and see an example of the work they need assistance completing. During the first session, I like to add an additional 30 minutes or so (for free) to the session so the student and I can get to know each other. I like my students to feel comfortable with me and be able to reach out about anything they need. I also like the parents/guardians to be informed about their child's education.

I have worked professionally with a few local students, ages 4-10. However, I am often the student in class that is asked to help others who are falling behind or explain a subject as we learn them. Thus, I have worked with all school age groups in one way or another.
