About Nancy

Greetings! My name is Nancy Chatteinier and I hold a PhD in Education, a Master’s in Business Administration, and a California Multiple Subject Teaching Credential with supplements in Earth Science, Mathematics and Physical Science. I was employed for 23 years by the Davis Joint Unified School District in Davis, California as a Mathematics and Science teacher. I love to read and do puzzles like sudoku and crossword. My favorite place is the beach.

"Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world." Albert Einstein. This quote exemplifies my teaching philosophy. Rather than merely teaching facts, I endeavor to also provide the students with scenarios and projects to explore utilizing the facts they are learning.

My focus is on the individual student. I want my students to learn tools for success not just the curriculum. I want my students to evaluate their strengths and weaknesses and with that knowledge create paths to success. I want my students to become active participants in their learning. I want to help my students cultivate skills that will aid them in school and life. By being a “guide on the side” I can become a partner in my students’ success and lifetime learning.

Science is all around us. I endeavor to connect students to Science in real life and show students how the information they are learning connects to their own life. Rather than focusing on facts, I focus on observable things in the natural world and use science ideas to predict or explain. My role is “Guide on the Side” I am available to assist; however, I am most likely to engage in a Socratic session of answering their question with a question. This allows the students to discover the answers they seek and to provide a model for lifetime learning.
