About Sophie
As a tutor, my priority has always been to build confidence within my students, so they have the self-belief and drive needed to meet any and all of their goals. Whilst grades are usually the end goal for tuition, I firmly believe that a strong understanding of the content (and lots of repetition!) is essential to build the self-assurance needed to thrive in science. With this ethos, grades naturally improve, but my goal has always and will always be to improve core understanding of science first. Though I am passionate about Science (and biology in particular) I know that not everyone is as enthusiastic as I am! I also understand that school and learning do not always come easily to students and that often schools don't teach students how to study, which can be a big barrier. So, I make it a priority to combine my enthusiasm about science, with my knowledge of the neuroscience of learning and memory to help you learn how to study, how to revise, and how to make better sense of your science content. Whilst grades certainly aren't everything, I do recognise that they are important. So far, 100% of my students pass foundation science with a minimum of a grade 4 and I have a 100% grade 7-9 rate for the higher paper at GCSE. At A-level, my biology students have a 100% B+ rate. Having tutored full time for the past 5 years, my roster of students has grown from friends of friends to a fully-fledged cohort of around 30 hours of lessons a week! Despite this, I am selective with the students I take on- I only accept students who want to be in my lessons! Tuition is not for everyone and not every student will thrive with their tutor. For me, it is essential that students are happy to be in their lessons and that they want to work towards our goals. If this sounds like a commitment you are interested in, please don't hesitate to contact me to begin today!

Within my lessons, we focus on fostering problem-solving skills, critical thinking and awareness of the 'why' behind what we are learning, so that my students learn how to study effectively and efficiently, and in turn reach academic achievements! Whether we're working on exam technique in Y11, fine-tuning specification content in Y13, or simply catching up on knowledge missed through the school year, I have tried and tested teaching tricks, revision tips, and exam tactics to boost understanding, grades and most importantly, confidence. A typical lesson might involve a short interactive warm-up activity that gets the brain warmed up. After this, we'll review the content for today's lesson, going over key points and identifying any areas of missing knowledge. If we're studying for a specific exam e.g., a GCSE or A-level, the lesson will usually include a section where you can apply the knowledge we have covered- whether this is through word-fills, match up tasks, or my personal favourite: exam questions. Finally, we'll do a quick recap of the lesson and I'll highlight any key terms or points that I expect a student to remember in the next lesson as their next warm-up task. Whilst this is a typical lesson plan, I am particularly passionate about creating effective learning strategies for neurodiverse students and those with learning difficulties, such as dyslexia, or processing disorders, such as ADHD. I firmly believe that education is for everyone and there's no reason why differences in any form should keep a student from reaching their full potential. Send me a message today to learn how lessons with me, work for you.

Sophie had been tutoring my son for the last few months in maths and science. I have seen real improvement in his confidence around the subjects and his grades reflect this. More importantly he really enjoys his lessons. I absolutely recommend contacting her to see how she can help.
Sophie has been tutoring my daughter for the last couple years in Science in preparation for the GCSCS. She has always delivered excellent quality sessions, focusing on topics of biology, chemistry and physics, which are relevant for these exam.
Most importantly, my daughter loves her sessions and I have seen big improvements in marks and confidence.
I absolutely recommend Sophie as tutor.A friend recommended Sophie to me as my daughter didn’t do very well in her GCSE mock after Christmas.
At first I was a little sceptical as all the lessons were online, but I need not have worried as my daughter soon settled into Sophie’s way of teaching.
My daughter lacks confidence but Sophie was very perceptive and picked up on this straight away.
After a couple of weeks I began to see my daughter’s confidence improve. Initially Sophie would prepare a draft lesson plan for the month, so my daughter always knew what text/topic they would be studying for each specific session. This was excellent, as my daughter was totally prepared for her lessons and was able to maximize her hour with Sophie.
Sophie also challenged my daughter with homework each week, and they would go through this during their next session. Sophie taught strategies on how to structure her work, and focused on exploring her knowledge of her text(s). She taught my daughter the importance of planning essays and writing quality over quantity, which I believe my daughter didn’t do previously.
They also focused on exam techniques and grade boosting by using specific ambitious language, which ultimately helped my daughter enormously.
Sophie would also update me on my daughters’ progress each week, so at every stage, I always knew how my daughter was ‘doing’, so that aspect was very helpful too.
It was amazing to hear my daughter talk so positively about Sophie after her session. Sophie was so motivating and enthusiastic and this undoubtedly had a beneficial effect on my daughter. My daughter just loved her sessions with Sophie and actually looked forward to them.
Moving forward to August 2022, my daughter achieved a GRADE 8 in her Literature exam. We were all so overjoyed. I can honestly say that my daughter would never have reached this level without the help of Sophie, that is a fact.
Sophie is a wonderful tutor, who is not only very knowledgeable, approachable, and professional but is also very committed to her student(s). She is so reliable and organised, I can’t praise her enough.
Needless to say, my daughter is continuing her tutoring with Sophie, as she is now studying English Literature at A Level.
If you are looking for a tutor, look no further, she is just fantastic.
Sophie was recommended from a highly trusted source and we have found her to be thorough and collaborative. Reflection of her engagement is visible in our son’s renewed commitment in the subject and we would be delighted to recommend Sophie to other parents.
