About Rachana

I've been a professional tutor since 2019, but I started teaching much before that. From mentoring younger debaters in high school to working for my medical school as a TA & tutor now, I have always found joy in helping people find their own verve for learning.

Over my time working as a professional tutor, I have developed my own curriculum for the writing and reading sections of the SAT and ACT that have consistently yielded amazing results. The core of the curriculum is composed of 6 writing modules and 2 reading modules with each module designed to take approximately 2 hours. The modules incorporate short conceptual lessons and actual test sections; learning and practice happen at the same time to minimize the need for outside work.

In addition to test prep, I am comfortable teaching creative writing, biology, and essay writing, editing, and organization. My goal whenever I teach is to help students develop study skills they will continue to use throughout their learning.

Navigating ADHD and test anxiety: I specialize in working with students who have ADHD and/or test anxiety, particularly for standardized testing. I myself was recently diagnosed with ADHD in late 2023, so I understand firsthand how the standard education system isn't designed to serve these students. I went undiagnosed for so long because I managed to develop tips and tricks to help me succeed; I can share these with you and help you come up with your own, too!

Education: I graduated from Northwestern University in 2019 where I double majored in Biological Sciences with a concentration in Genetics and Genomics and Creative Writing with a concentration in fiction. I went on to graduate with a Masters of Biomedical Sciences from the New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2022. Most recently, I am in the process of completing my medical school training where I continue to perform at the top of my class.

ACT - 36/36

MCAT - 516 (92nd percentile)
