Chris is an excellent Brazilian jiu-jitsu instructor for adults and children. Unlike many instructors, he is well versed in combatives (self-defense) and sport jiu-jitsu (competition style). I've had Chris as an instructor in both a private and group setting.

My experience was typical of a new jiu jitsu student - getting smashed by everyone. While I was not doing particularly well during sparring sessions I thoroughly enjoyed myself and wanted to improve. Enter Chris.

After the first private lesson I noticed a marked improvement during the sparring sessions - I was surviving. Each private lesson I'd discuss with Chris where I was having success and diffulties. He'd build the lesson plan accordingly. After three lessons I was starting to move from survival to actual success (sweeps and submissions against my white belt peers).

After I had the "basics" I continued to take privates as it helped me brainstorm, add new facets to my game, clean up techniques where I had forgotten steps.

I am currently a year into my purple belt and the lessons Chris provided me are the foundation of my game and I've had success with it against all belt levels at my gym and open mats at other gyms. I took gold in my first competition utilizing the very skills he taught me as a white belt.

Aside from being an excellent instructor, Chris is easy going. I've seen him instruct children in both a group and private setting and I can tell they love him. I would give Chris six stars if I were able. I cannot recommend Chris highly enough.

Chris has worked with our son (Diego) for the past several years, and he has been very helpful & patient with him with learning Jiu Jitsu. We just recently started back up with hands on Jiu Jitsu sessions, due to Covid closures, and we now have our daughter working with Chris as well in both group class and individual one on one sessions.
We believe Chris is very careful with the fitness, speed, tempo and building process with which he teaches Jiu Jitsu techniques to both of our children, and that is key for them for their future. We would recommend Chris to any other Youth/ adult students in the practice of Jiu Jitsu.

I have worked with Chris for approximately two years. He has a great teaching style that makes you feel comfortable. Chris is patient while he instructs but at the same time his lessons are structured so there isn’t any wasted time. I left every class and private lesson with the feeling that I got better. Getting into this sport at an older age I was a little uncomfortable. Chris made me feel welcome and customized a lesson plan that best fit my age, body type and experience level. I would highly recommend Chris to anyone looking to improve their Jiu Jitsu. I can only speak as a rookie in this sport but I know he has helped me tremendously. I owe him a lot and I can’t wait to get back on the mats with him soon.

Chris is technical, patient, and observant. He has a remarkable ability to diagnose the details and gaps in your game and to coach the changes to overcome those. He's super chill which makes it very easy to learn in a fun but focused atmosphere.

Chris will follow your movement and move into the cracks to direct it without meeting it force for force. I'm trying to get more of his surflike flow-with-the-go approach into my own game.

He's a great guy and a very good coach. Can't recommend him enough.
