About Julia
I view learning as a skill that can be sharpened over time, not something that comes naturally. Everyone has the ability to learn at an elevated level with practice, guidance, and determination.
I graduated from Sacramento State with a degree in Political Science. I was also an International Baccalaureate student in high school. I decided to become a mentor to undergraduate first- and second-year students in college. Part of that role was tutoring in general education classes and significant classes and offering general academic advice.
My tutoring expertise falls under social sciences and education mentorship for transitioning high school or undergraduate college students.
Since I was a child, I loved teaching. So, I started volunteering at my local pool as a student swim trainer. When I turned 15, I became a full-time swim trainer and stayed in that role for 6 years. That experience enhanced my skills in working with kids and teens, learning how to communicate with them in a constructive manner. In college, I wanted to be more involved with teaching. So, I enrolled as a mentor and was able to carry that through all of college.

The process starts by getting to know the student's needs such as, what they struggle with, and what they are interested in.
I would then try to understand their learning styles and learn why they are struggling in specific issue areas.
After assessing their needs, we will discuss their short-term and long-term academic goals.
From there, we would dive into the materials and assignments.
I mostly work with high school students to first and second-year college students.
