About Alan
I have been playing chromatic and diatonic harmonicas for decades. I have played in blues and jazz groups. I taught at a local music store briefly in the past and that is where I will teach. The store is Russell's Music World in the Ghent section of Norfolk, Virginia. I love music and I would like to help other people learn to play and appreciate the harmonica. I emphasize listening to the music you like, but also learning from past masters of the music you prefer.
I enjoy music because it makes life worth living and it makes people happy.

I will ask if he is a beginner or has experience playing. I will go by his or her age. I will try to get to make them feel comfortable and be patient. I will tell them my experience in playing and teaching. If they choose to read music, which I encourage, I can show them what I know, but depending on the written page can hold you back. It is essential in jazz to know how to read at least a little. I will try to make them feel the music they are trying to play and encourage them to play what they feel and not play like someone else.
