About Amy

The Hunter School of Music offers private lessons in piano, voice, guitar, mandolin, ukulele, flute, theory, and composition. Depending on age and ability, you can choose from a 30 minute, 45 minute, or 60 minute weekly private lesson. Private lessons are available to anyone from 5 years old through adults, beginners, intermediate, or advanced. Our instructors have several years experience teaching children in schools, college classes, and individual and group lessons to all ages and abilities. You may read about each instructor’s background and their teaching philosophy under the “Meet the Instructors” tab. Please call for lesson rates are they vary for instructor and instrument.

If you have a younger child (3-5) that is looking for a small group introductory to music class we have a group general music classes on Thursdays from 5:00-5:30 taught by Amy Hunter. The class is 30 minutes long and can enroll up to 8 children.

All of the instructors at The Hunter School of Music are passionate about music and teaching. We are focused on giving each student their own specially designed lesson that we feel will help them accelerate learning in the most enjoyable way possible. There's nothing better than being able to share what's most important to you. We thoroughly enjoy watching our students progress and find their own musical voice.

The instructors at The Hunter School of Music are well trained in their instrument and have teaching experience. All have taken college music courses and some even have their masters and doctorates in music. We have all been teaching students of various ages groups for many years. Some of our students are also members of music organizations, such as Music Teachers Association of California, or Music Teachers National Association, or various other music groups. We compose, perform, and attend confrences. We are all very knowledgeable and active in our field.

About the lesson

In the first lesson, which is a free 30 minute trial lesson, we get to know the new student, discovering what music they enjoy listening to, what their goals are, what they would like to accomplish on their instrument. Based on that we will choose the appropriate repertoire that will help them acheive their individual goals along with providing them with a solid technical foundation. Most students will be asked to purchase a few books to get them started, typically a lesson book, performance book, and theory book.

We have worked with students of all ages and abilities. Every person is welcome to a free 30 minute trial lesson at The Hunter School of Music regardless of age or experience.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
As with learning anything, goals are important. It's good when a student has specific goals that they want to achieve on their instrument, whether it's being able to play a specific piece or set of pieces, understanding how to play a certain genre of music, being able to play for friends, or being able to compose their own music. It helps us to know what your goals are and also what styles of music you like the most/enjoy listening to. With that information we can put together a lesson plan that sets you forward to seeing those goals come to life!
