About Jim

I'm a certified Class A PGA Professional with over 18 years of experience in the golf business. I've spent a majority of my time as an instructor for all ages and levels as well as creating and teaching clinics designed specifically for men, women, children, seniors and beginners. I've served on the Philadelphia Section of the PGA Junior Golf Committee from 2014-2018 and I've been nominated and awarded Honorable Mention for the US Kids Top 50 Instructors in 2012, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 & 2020. I've been nominated for the Philadelphia PGA Youth Development Award for 2017. I'm TPI (Titleist Performance Institute) Certified Level 1 in Golf and Fitness and Level 2 Junior Certified, a US Kids Certified Coach, Swing Catalyst Certified Instructor, Boditrak Certified and also an AimPoint Certified Instructor. I've also been published in GRAA (Golf Range Association of America) and PGA Magazines "Best Practices" in 2018. I have a passion for teaching people the game of golf...bettering my students and helping them enjoy the game is my goal in this business.

Seeing my students continue to improve and make progress is my goal. I have a huge passion for the game of golf and fortunately I have been blessed with the gift of being able to play the game at a very high level competitively and also teach it. It takes a great eye, the knowledge and ability to fix a swing as well as a great deal of patience to work withy all different playing levels....all which I posess.

When I got in the golf business I was already very knowledgable from being around the game and good players growing up.  After receiving lessons myself for years Carolinas Teacher of the Year Ron Cerrudo I gained so much information about the golf swing.  Aso how to communicate with students properly, spot swing flaws and then fix them.  I worked under and around other PGA professionals and shadowed them during their private lessons and clinics.  I learned the correct way before I began teaching myself.

Having passed all of my PGA testing and ataining my Class A status I've had a great deal of experiece over the past 18 years.  I've worked with and under some of the best instructors in the world such as James Sieckmann, Bernie Najar, Ted Sheftic, Mark Durland and Mike Adams.  I've worked at 6 different local private facilities where I've spent thousands of hours teaching private lessons, group clinics and even playing lessons.  My TPI Golf Fitness Certification gives me the knowledge and understanding between the body and swing relation.  I've been Certified by AimPoint Golf, the number one green reading system in the world.  Also my extensive work teaching Juniors and my US Kids certification makes me one of the best junior instructors in Pennsylvania.  I have a strong background using V1 video analysis during my lessons and I'm currently going through the certification process for FlightScope launch monitors.

First thing is to sit down, have a discussion and develop a solid level of communication.  Both of us will ask questions espescially me...trying to learn as much as possible about the student before the actual lesson begins.  I'd like to know such things as what is your experience, have you ever taken lessons before, do you have any injuries or have had any surgeries I should know about before beginning.  Developing a stong line of communication and trust is a great key factor in working well with someone.  Discuss your goals and see if reaching them together is possible.

Honestly...every type.  I've worked with complete beginers, men, women, seniors, juniors, physically disabled, blind golfers, advanced golfers (scratch handicaps).  I've done a great deal of volunteer work with associations such as the Variety club, North Penn Boys & Girls club and the Blind Golfer's Association.  I would say there isn't a type that I haven't worked with.

Get your lessons from a PGA Professional.  If someone hasn't gone through the PGA program I personally don't think they're qualified to teach.  Give someone like myself a call or and email...have a conversation and make sure the instructor you get has what you're looking for.  Make sure he/she is a good fit for you.

A few months ago the Philadelphia Section reached out to us here at Blue Bell to see if we would host and add our assistance to runing a program that I'm extremely fonds of, PGA Hope (Helping Our Patriots Everywhere).  It is a year roundgolf program for all military Veterans, designed to enhancetheir rehabilitation and assimilationback into society.  The HOPE program provides all veterans with FREE golf instruction taught by local PGA Professionals such as myself.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
What goals are they trying to achieve.  Why do they play golf....is it just recreational, work related, family related or possibly career related.  Have a check list of the areas that you want to progress in and lay them out for both of you to understand.
