About Skyler

I am a recent graduate of the Robert D. Clark Honors College at the University of Oregon where I earned a double bachelor's degree in French and advertising. I spent one year as a Youth Ambassador in Arras, France through Rotary International in 2015, where I lived with host families, attended French high school, and was fully immersed in French culture and language. While abroad, I earned my DELF (Diplôme d'Études en Langue Française) Diploma by taking a two day long test administered by the French government, proving oral, written, and comprehensive fluency in French. I passed this exam at the B2 level, the highest level offered. I also studied for six months at L'Institut d'Études Politiques de Paris (Sciences Po Paris) located in Paris in 2019. I have a great deal of experience working with children of all ages, including being a part-time nanny to a French-American family while living in Paris, and volunteering at a French-immersion elementary school in Eugene, Oregon. My experiences living and learning in France, along with my years studying French have allowed me to have a very strong grasp on the language, as well as a deep love and appreciation for French culture.

I love the French language and the culture of France very much, and would love to be able to help others with learning French and appreciating French culture. I love working with students and helping teach them new concepts. It makes me so happy to see students finally understand a lesson or concept that they have struggled with, and I would love to be able to make that possible.

I studied French for ten years in school, received a Bachelor's degree in French, and have lived in France on two separate occasions, both of which were spent in total cultural and language immersions.

About the lesson

I start by looking at the lessons that the student is currently working on to familiarize myself with the level of French that they are currently learning. Then, I determine what parts of those French lessons may be the hardest before speaking with the student about what they are stuggling with, where they might like to improve, or what supplementary work they might want to do.

I have worked with students ranging from kindergarten level to college level French learners and everywhere in between.

Though I didn't get to participate in an in-person graduation ceremony for my graduation from the University of Oregon, the UO held an online ceremony for graduating students and their families. Though it wasn't the same as an in-person graduation ceremony, I still truly enjoyed celebrating this monumental milestone.
