About Makayla

I love working with young flutists to come up with goals together and designing a plan to fit their needs. Nothing makes me happier than seeing my kids achieve their milestones! I have had students place high in all state bands as well as in solo competitions. I like to make my lessons fun, while still getting the work done. I am currently a music education student at OKlahoma City University and I was principle flute in their program for three years. I got the privilege to play in band, orchestra, quintets, operas, flute choir, as well as compete and win in OKFS competitions.

Working in the education program at my school, I was able to work with all ages of students every day and thoroughly enjoyed it!

I have three years of college under my belt and have been in nearly every production OCU has put on. In Oklahoma City I built my own flute studio as well.

About the lesson

First I like to have them bring music they’ve been working on and let them play so I can get a feel for areas that need improvement as well as see what they are into playing. Then I will give them things like small sight reading exercises to test their reading skills and make an overall assessment of the students needs.

Inner city and underprivileged youth. Children in good communities and bad. I’ve seen a lot of different programs.

Pick a teacher that you like! If you don’t like the teacher, you won’t want to do the work.

I was able to hear an old recording of before I started working with my student, and compare it to a recording of how she sounds after just four years of working with her. It was so fulfilling to see how far she’s come!

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
I only ask that lessons that need to be rescheduled are changed 24 hours in advance, and do not show up late.
