About Haylee

I genuinely love helping people out! I will gladly help you without judgement. I've gone to my fair share of math tutoring, so I understand it can feel embarrassing sometimes when the tutor acts condescending. I also really want to make this as fun as possible.

I love meeting all sorts of people, and this is a great way to meet all sorts of people. I also love explaining things (often unprompted, which probably annoys my friends) and teaching. I think knowledge is such a wonderful thing and I love to share it.

I got started when I realized I really enjoy helping people learn. I think it's really nice to see when something clicks for a person.

I am a college student, majoring in Economics & minoring in Public Policy. In high school, I did almost all AP courses and finished high school with a 3.7 GPA. I consistently received my best grades in English & Economics.

I have done tutoring before, when I was in high school. I normally tutored to my family friend's children.

About the lesson

My typical process for a new client is first getting to know about them! For most, tutoring isn't very fun, so I try to get to know them and their interests so I can try to cater it more to them and have fun. Then, I like to ask what they feel like their weakest and strongest points with writing are. With this knowledge, I can encourage my students with the things they feel weak in & target those subjects, while congratulating on their strong points.

I have worked with high school students.

Look for teachers who are confident in their abilities and are excited to teach (like me!). You definitely don't want a tutor who isn't excited to teach.

Find someone who seems credible.

In my current Economics course, I was helping out a friend do test prep for the upcoming test. Economics can be tricky for some people to grasp, and I felt really great when they finally got ahold of the concept I was teaching them.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
I think students should think about what they want. Some students come in with no specific idea of what they want from a tutor, and a student should come in with a problem or assignment they need help with. Additionally, students should know that their tutor isn't there to do the problem for them. The tutor is meant to help guide them, not just give them the answers.
