About Theodore

Hi, My name is Ted Zayka. I am a certified teacher, and have been teaching in both private and public schools for over 10 years. I have my Masters degree in Education.

I teach English primarily, but I am also certified in theatre, and have taught classes ranging from dramatic literature, to playwriting, to film and theatre studies, to middle and high school English and ELA.

I teach what I love, and what I have a passion for. I am a freelance writer on the side, and reading and writing has always been a passion of mine, even before I stepped into the classroom. As a teacher, nothing gives me more satisfaction than having the opportunity to pass this love of English on to my students. It makes all the hard work worth it!

I love reading and writing, and beyond teaching, I have made a successful career freelance writing. I keep my own website/blog where I ty to write as often as possible.

To me, teaching and tutoring is empowering because there’s nothing better than seeing the look on my students’ faces when an idea or concept finally makes sense to them. The satisfaction they gain by understanding English and literature is not overwhelming, but can be fun and exciting! I love sharing my passion for reading, writing and English, and if I can pass a little of what I’ve learned on my journey, then I’m happy!

About the lesson

The first step is to assess where they are. Everybody progresses at their own pace, and sometimes there are gaps in the learning, regardless of grade level or grades received. Secondly, it’s important to understand where the student and parents feel the weak points are. Sometimes lack of confidence in a particular area can affect other areas, so if that is addressed, it solves many problems at times.
