MEET EMMA VOGEL

Teacher: certified middle/high school educator with a lifetime teaching license

Tutor: personalized education plans and content specific support in a time when school looks different for all of us

Theater Director: performing arts opportunities in a time when theater feels far away, and the opportunity for your child to grow as a performer with focused, one-on-one guidance and support

I am a compassionate, dedicated and hard worker. I love the arts and working with children of all ages. After completing my rigorous education training at Grove City College, I spent five years in the public school system teaching middle school English, Language Arts and Reading Intervention classes in both North Carolina and Wisconsin. During that time, I honed my skills as a theater director, growing Belleville High School's theater program. In addition, I became involved at Verona Area Community Theater both as an actor, director and acting coach.

Based in Madison, Wisconsin but with a VIRTUAL reach and am willing and able to work with students from all around the state and country!

We all are far too familiar with the rollercoaster that 2020 has been. From sudden changes in plan to unexpected cancellations to creating a completely new way of thinking about what used to be normal occurrences...if you're anything like me, you're EXHAUSTED!

However, one important lesson I've learned in this season of life is that sometimes beautiful things still happen even when life gets flipped upside down. And that being forced to slow down and talk stock of what's in front of us leads us to make decisions we wouldn't have anticipated making, but decisions we are confident are best for us and our future.

This summer I made the difficult decision of leaving my role as a public school educator. I made this decision based on a calling I'd been sensing for a long time that my gifts as a teacher could be best used outside of a traditional classroom setting.

Was it a scary decision? You better believe it. Was it hard to leave the students I loved? Absolutely.

But what excited me was the fresh energy I felt now that I had time to serve my students in an entirely new way. The spark of an idea that would allow me to combine my love of teaching with my love of being a director and a champion of youth performing arts. The ability to serve families who were in need of educational support during an unpredictable school year and young people who were missing acting and being on stage in a day were Broadway itself is in a phase of "intermission."

And so, I decided to fade to black the chapter of my life where I worked in a public school setting, and open the curtain on this exciting new endeavor where I can bring personalized education and performing arts opportunities to families in my community. But because of my virtual reach, I can expand my services to all around the state of Wisconsin. Or the country. Or the world!

7th Grade Language Arts Teacher, Fuquay Varina Middle School, Fuquay Varina, NC (2015-2017)

Worked in the Wake County Public School system at FVMS with students that demonstrated a wide variety of needs, ability levels and backgrounds and successfully differentiated instruction to meet the needs of all students. Taught language arts skills, critical thinking skills, reading comprehension skills and writing skills in 7th grade to students in advanced/gifted classes, regular grade level classes and special education inclusion classes. Collaborated, participated in and led weekly Professional Learning Team meetings with other 7th grade Language Arts teachers to create curriculum, common assessments and discuss data that informed decision regarding classroom instruction.

7th Grade Language Arts and Response to Intervention Teacher, Belleville Middle School, Belleville, WI (2017-2020)

7th grade Language Arts teacher and small group reading intervention class teacher that focused on supplementing gaps or scaffolding the learning of struggling students, particularly in the areas of critical thinking, vocabulary, and writing. Took on leadership roles such as assistant coach of the middle school forensics team as well as directing the high school musical. Won the "Awesome Educator Award" for the 2018-2019 school year.

About the lesson

I will start with a phone call or video call, free of charge, to consult on areas of strength of weakness that the student displays in the content area. From there, I will come up with a multi-week plan that I will share with both the studend and their family that will be a jumping off point for our first month of sessions together.

I have tutored elementary and middle school students. I primarily taught middle school English/Language Arts, but directed a high school theater program. I have acting coaching experience with grades 3-12.
