About Lucy

Hi, I'm Lucy. I'm a tutor specializing in Writing, Literature, and ACT English and Reading prep. I have 2 years of experience as a high school essay reviewer and freelance writing tutor. I believe everyone can benefit from learning how to write concisely and in a clear, efficient style. Whether you're working on college application essays or preparing for the ACT, I'm here to help you reach your goals.

Having previously studied Communicative Arts at the Georgia Governor's Honors Program, I am well versed in all different kinds of writing. I've also completed writing courses at Georgia State University, which gave me additional peer-reviewing experience in both academic English and creative writing. As a current student at Charles University working on a degree in Liberal Arts and Humanities, my background and education extend beyond the typical high school English canon and into classical philosophy texts, history, and social science literature.

I've always been drawn to the humanities, particularly literature, but I know how difficult test prep and essay writing can be. When students don't feel engaged or interested in the material, it can feel easy to give up or resign themselves to failure. That's why I strive to create engaging lesson plans that aim to improve the skills students struggle the most with. We'll work with past pieces of writing to focus in on weaknesses, complete short and long-form essay assignments, and practice reading comprehension and analysis. All of these exercises create a toolkit for writing that students can bring to whatever language arts challenge comes their way.

I have previously worked with middle and high school students, but tutor a wide range of young writers. So if you have a writing goal you'd like to meet, please do not hesitate to reach out. I look forward to talking with you and helping you reach your full potential.

About the lesson

New students should expect a detailed discussion of their strengths and weaknesses by reviewing past assignments, the expectations set for their course, and their personal goals. After we determine what needs to be worked on, the student will receive lesson plans catered to their individual needs.
