About Tonya
I am a Creative Writing graduate from UCA. I have always excelled at English. Caring about a student understanding how to read, write, create a story, poem, essay, is what I'm about. It's important to have these skills in anyone's future because it makes communication more accurate.
I enjoy teaching reading, writing, and art. I love to see the light bulb come on in a mind that suddenly gets it! It is also a great reward knowing that I'm helping someone to better themselves and be more educated.
I worked in the UALR Writing Center for a semester and have taken many writing workshops. In doing so, I've learned there are different teaching methods as well as different ways people learn.
Art is the same way, people learn in different ways. I believe art is more about interpretation of the assignment and the feelings and thoughts are involved with the process of creating.

I like to ask them to explain to me what their assignment is first. Sometimes, just them reading the assignment out loud can clarify instruactions or bring up questions. Then I like to get an idea how they would start and finish that assignment. From there I find out what their strengths and weaknesses are to come up with a plan of action.
