About Alexandra

I have been a tutor for six years and have worked with nearly every type of student, from pre-schoolers learning to read to graduate students working on their doctoral dissertations. Currently, I teach two writing courses at Florida State Univeristy while I earn my Master's degree in Rhetoric and Composition. I also have an extensive background in working with college application essays, Resumes/CVs/Personal Statements/Cover letters, and the college admissions process, in addition to being certified to tutor for the SAT and ACT.

University Writing Center Tutor (Wake Forest University and Florida State University): Advised graduate and undergraduate students throughout all steps of the writing process as they completed higher-level essays, papers, and theses

Doherty Educational Consultants Advisor: Met with students to determine both their approach to the college application process and their corresponding essays so that I could give the most fitting feedback on their writing throughout all steps of their composition process

Updated the student portal website with information about application deadlines and requirements for each college

C2 Education Tutor: Formed students’ study plans based on my knowledge of their unique abilities and goals; tailored my teaching style to each individual student; maintained a positive, focused learning environment; taught elementary, middle, and high school students reading and writing skills, both in preparation for standardized tests and to increase general performance in school; communicated with parents about students’ progress and needs

Constructed various curriculum plans for students studying verbal lessons; created and organized the weekly schedule; updated and systematized student records so that both teachers and administration would have the most accurate information to work with

Varsity Tutors Private Tutor: Created individualized tutoring plans based on students’ academic needs

Worked with students to meet their goals, which ranged from improving their writing abilities and reading comprehension skills to exceeding on standardized tests

Kumon Center Tutor: Provided one-on-one tutoring for pre-school to high school aged students; ssigned and graded homework and classwork; updated parents on students’ progress

About the lesson

My process works differently for each unique student. I usually like to start by talking with the parent, or both the student and parent if they prefer, about their needs and goals before our first session. I do lots of pre-planning to make the most of our time, so communicating first (without charge, of course) is important to me.
