About Nivea

I am a Quinnipiac University graduate student who completed her undergraduate degree in English with a concentration in creative writing and secondary education. I am currently completing my graduate degree in English secondary education and will finish it in May 2020. I specialize in English tutoring for grades 6-12th.

I have two years of experience in schools working with students and have created several lessons that have been effective for the students. I have taught workshops in American poetry at the international Gerard Manley Hopkins Festival. I am currently an intern who is substitute teaching to complete the requirements of my program. Differentiation is the most important thing when teaching so I will never use a "one-size-fits-all" approach when tutoring your child.

An English teacher in my senior year of high school had inspired me to follow in her footsteps and I applied to get into Quinnipiac's teaching program right off the bat my freshman year and have been hooked ever since.

I have a Bachelor's degree in English with a concentration in creative writing and secondary education. I am currently working on my Master's in English secondary education.

I have worked in schools for two years as a field study student where I worked alongside the teachers in the classrooms. This year, I am an intern working as a substitute teacher who will eventually student teach in the coming months.

I am a member of Sigma Tau Delta, which is a nationally recognized honor society for English majors.

About the lesson

The first few steps involve gauging where the student is with their current work. I ask the student to complete a few assignments for their grade level and not only assess how well they performed on the assignments but also how well they are able to communicate and explain their answers. I also begin a portfolio on the student from the beginning that I continuously add to.

All grades from 9th-12th of varying academic level needs in journalism and English classes.

Being able to host a workshop in writing poetry in the style of American poets at the international Gerard Manley Hopkins festival in Ireland has been one of the happiest moments in my life.
